Grades 4 through 6 (Ages 9-12)
The Upper Elementary level leads to greater abstraction – more writing, dialogue, and skill in the process of exploration. Students naturally want to learn about language and humanities because they are learning and developing in that area themselves in social interactions. Communication is a strong social need at this level, as is the enthusiasm to understand more about the immediate and broader worlds of which they are a part.
“There is no description, no image in any book that is capable of replacing the sight of real trees and all the life to be found around them, in a real forest. Something emanates from those trees which speaks to the soul, something no book, no museum is capable of giving.”
– Dr. Maria Montessori
The Earth Experience, an outdoor education venture, is a key curricular Montessori approach. The Montessori student is called to an awareness of his place in the world and his duties to steward life around him.
In addition to the integrated curriculum, these students have many opportunities beyond their primary classroom for additional activities during and after school. Child Care is available before and after school.
