I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend. I’m looking forward to the sunny week ahead of us. Our class will definitely get out and work in our garden this week. This outdoor work, along with our Science Area, is our Children’s House “earth experience “, or “E2”, as it is referred to at the elementary level.
Our class continues our study of Life Cycles. The children have enjoyed studying the life cycle of the frog first hand . Thank you Izzie Speer for providing our class with tadpoles! It’s always great to add real life specimens to our studies.
We also began our study of insects, in particular bees. Last Friday former parent Todd Schweitzer gave our class a presentation on Mason Bees, and provided us with a mason bee house, which is in our garden courtyard, along with many bees in the pupa stage. It will be fun to watch as the adult bees emerge (mason bees do not sting).
Our class has had some wonderful helpers on Thursday mornings. Last fall two upper elementary students, Avari Brocker and Lily Rindfusz, students in the Maple Room (John Kenagy’s class), asked if they could volunteer in our classroom. Both girls were former students in The Larch Room. The girls have been assisting the children with some of their art projects, as well as helping out with various activities. It’s wonderful to maintain this connection and interaction with students as they transition to the upper levels.
It was great to meet with all of you during our Parent/Teacher conferences. Please feel free to let me know anytime you may have a question or comment. I welcome your input and feedback!
I would like to remind you of a few upcoming dates/events:
- April 26: Grandparent Day. I’m sure you’ve received information regarding this special day. The children love sharing their classroom work with their grandparents.
- May 4: OMSI Reptile Presentation, “Scales, Claws, and Expanding Jaws”.
- May 11: CH Open House, 2:45-4:30 pm (drop-in).
- June 8: Last-Day-of-School Picnic, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, 1:00 dismissal for all students on this day.
Thank you all! Enjoy the sunshine! Priscilla
